World No. 1 Mark Selby completed a hat-trick of victories at The Masters with a 10-6 triumph over Neil Robertson on Sunday evening.

Selby, looking to add a third Masters title to his recent UK Championship triumph at Alexandra Palace, entered the evening session needing five more frames for victory after building a 5-3 lead. And after an admirable rally by Robertson - who closed from 8-3 to 8-6, Selby eventually lived up to his status as the best match player in the game.

The Jester from Leicester was a slow-starter in the semi-finals when he had to fight back from 4-1 to beat Graeme Dott, but there was no such delay against Robertson. Selby won the first three frames in rapid time, featuring breaks of 73 and 102.

High-scoring was a hallmark of Robertson's own semi-final victory over Shaun Murphy and he responded with a run of 78 to make it 3-1. But the former world No. 1 was always battling against the tide.

Robertson was not playing badly, but Selby could barely miss as a run of 84 helped him move ahead 4-1 before a safety joust extended his advantage to four frames.

The Thunder from Down Under faced the prospect of losing touch before the evening session had even arrived. However, he dug in to reduce the deficit to 5-2 after a frame that lasted over 20 minutes, and a run of 72 in the next set up an intriguing evening session.

As the players returned to the baize, it was clear Robertson needed a better start than he had got in the afternoon session, yet Selby swiped away that plan with a break of 67. He then produced a classy 24 in difficult circumstances to move to 7-3, before a poor safety from Robertson extended the gap to five frames.

The players entered the mid-session interval with the score at 8-4 after a 74 from the Australian, and Robertson registered again the other side of the break with an 83. A missed pink by Selby made things even more interesting as Robertson closed to 8-6, but Selby scrapped out the next before sealing victory thanks to a brilliantly judged red.
