Scotland snatched a 21-19 victory over Argentina in their Test match in Cordoba, but it was another far-from-convincing performance by an inexperienced Scotland side.

As had been the case against Canada last weekend, Scotland traded points with Argentina, neither side ever being able to open up a significant lead. It took a penalty two minutes from time from Duncan Weir to secured victory for Vern Cotter's young team.

Scotland started nervily but scored in the sixth minute when Nick De Luca's sent Tommy Seymour on a break, and he fed Stuart Hogg who went over in the corner, with Weir converting. Soon after Seymour went close when a bad bounce thwarted him after he chased down his own kick through.

But on 13 minutes Argentina scored themselves, Javier Ortega Desio capping a period of excellent forward play. Although Nicolas Sanchez missed the conversion, he slotted a drop-goal in the 27th minute to put the home side 8-7 up.

He extended the lead to 11-7 two minutes after half-time with a penalty, Weir replying with one of his own after 55 minutes.

Scotland continued to press without creating real scoring chances and a Sanchez penalty on 57 minutes was followed almost immediately by Argentina's second try, substitute Joaquin Tuculet scoring within a minute of coming on.

Scotland, 19-10 down, once more pushed on but Argentina looked firm in defence , Weir's second penalty from a long way out cutting the deficit to six points with ten minutes left.

Three minutes later the Argentine defence cracked, once again De Luca and Seymour creating the chance which Henry Pyrgos finished. Weir missed the conversion and Scotland remained a point behind.

But another infringement at a lineout allowed Weir, against a backdrop of booing by the crowd, to kick his third penalty and in so doing continue Scotland's winning run.

Sanchez had one last-gasp effort at a drop-goal which sailed wide.
