Indian side triumph in TourAid festival

Seven years after the Jungle Crows won the TourAid Under-14 title and three years since the KISS boys won the Manchester TourAid Festival, the girls of Kalinga Institute completed a sensational hat trick by winning the 20-team TourAid Girls Festival at Allianz Park.

Supported by Premiership Rugby, the Festival brought girls teams from Brazil, Colombia, Hong Kong, India, St Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago, Swaziland, Uganda and England to enjoy rugby and celebrate International Women's Day.

The girls joining the visit from Brazil, are drawn from Premiership Rugby's Try Rugby programme in São Paulo state and Premiership Rugby Community and CSR Director Wayne Morris said: "The Festival was a wonderful event and Premiership Rugby was delighted to support it. TourAid should be applauded for this initiative. It crucial we back the next generation of women players across the globe.

"Rugby is helping to develop girls' confidence, leadership and teamwork. These are life skills vital for girls to reach their full potential and becoming catalysts for change in their own communities."

At the Allianz Park festival having come through the group stage conceding only one try, the girls of Kalinga Institute defeated a spirited Uganda Bawala team in sudden death having drawn 5-5 after full time.

Up against the seven other international sides from Colombia, Brazil, Uganda, Trinidad & Tobago, Swaziland, Hong Kong and St Lucia, and 12 UK sides, the KISS girls triumphed.

A day off from sport today, with visits to the Houses of Parliament and lunch at the Embassy, followed by a netball day with Asian Woman of the Year, Monica Thandi from Netball Development Trust, Surrey Storm and players from Harlequins.
