London Wasps winger Tom Varndell has been called up to join the England training camp at Loughborough University this week.
England head coach Stuart Lancaster invited Varndell, who won the last of his four England caps back in 2008, to link up with Elite Player Squad where he will join club mates Joe Launchbury and Christian Wade - who are in the elite squad - and Joe Simpson, Elliot Daly, Kearnan Myall and James Haskell who were recently named in the Saxons. However, neither Haskell or Daly are training this week as both continue their recovery from injuries.
Varndell finished as the joint top tryscorer in last season's Aviva Premiership alongside Wade with both players notching 13 tries. His preparations for the new season have included a run out for Wasps during the recent Premiership Rugby 7s and more recently grabbed two tries in his side's 36-27 pre-season defeat to French side Clermont Auvergne.
