The Australian rugby brain drain of leading coaches continues with Eastern Suburbs coach Mark Bakewell signing a three-year contract with French club Brive.
Bakewell, who was named the Australian coach of the year in 2000, will take Easts and Waratahs halfback Sam Payne with him.
Payne, a Wallaby representative, struggled to get into the Waratahs starting 15 this year behind Chris Whitaker.
Brive was the 1997 European Cup winners, but Bakewell's task will be to return the club to First Division after slipping out last season. Bakewell was Wallaby fitness coach in 1997.
Tim Lane, Steve Nance and John Connolly coached in France this year and Lane has now joined Springbok management as backs coach.
