Bath Rugby have received a boost with the news George Ford is back to full fitness after having surgery in the off-season.

Ford injured his shoulder in Bath's last Aviva Premiership match of the season and even though he played a fortnight later in their Amlin Challenge Cup final match against Northampton, he was forced to go under the knife and missed England's tour of New Zealand.

But Ford is back in pre-season training and will play a full part in Bath's imminent trip to Portugal. Bath coach Mike Ford told the Bath Chronicle: "George's operation went really well and he will be ready to play in the pre-games.

"In the four weeks off he had his operation in the first and was then in a hyperbaric chamber to increase his oxygen levels and help speed up his recovery. He's like new and eager to get back going again. Matt Garvey is back with us and Ross Batty is throwing again, so they've come on really well."
