England fly-half Freddie Burns has opened up on the inner-turmoil he is experiencing as he decides where to continue his rugby career.

Burns' Gloucester contract is up at the end of the season and Leicester have already made their interest in the fly-half clear, though they are unable to hold talks with Burns until January.

There are also rumours of Toulon looking at Burns as they look to fill the void left by Jonny Wilkinson but Toby Flood is the clear favourite to take up that position.

And Burns seems no closer to deciding where his future lies. "This year has definitely not gone as I hoped, in fact, it's gone a lot worse," Burns told the Daily Mirror. "I've struggled to separate on-field from off-field. Everyone knows I'm out of contract and there's a decision to be made. The situation has weighed heavy on my mind and, without doubt, affected my performances."

Burns, who has three caps to his name, insists his England prospects will be prioritised over financial gain. "Money isn't the issue," Burns added. "It's a case of becoming the best player I can be. I want to play in the World Cup for England. I want to be winning silverware and I want to be where I'm happy and enjoy playing."
