Russian freestyle skier Maria Komissarova has confirmed she has no feeling from the waist down following her Sochi training accident which left her with a broken spine.

Komissarova suffered the injury during training for the ski-cross event at the Winter Olympics, and was subsequently flown to Germany for treatment on February 15.

However, Komissarova revealed the true extent of her injuries when posting on her Instagram account.

"I do not feel my body lower than my belly button," Komissarova wrote. "But I am strong and know that someday I will definitely be on my feet again.

"I do not know where to begin but I do not want to hide from everyone, as everyone is supporting me so much, thank you."

Russian president Vladimir Putin visited Komissarova in hospital before she was later moved to another clinic in Munich.
