Quick-hit personnel thoughts from loss: DOWN -- Stephen Gostkowski (missed PAT/FG); Elandon Roberts/run defense (189 yards allowed); defensive coaching with final-play personnel/approach; UP -- Albert McClellan (2 blocked punts); Rob Gronkowski/offense (8 catches, 107 yards, TD); Josh Gordon (5 catches, 96 yards).

Tom Brady acknowledged he lost track of timeouts at end of the 2nd quarter. "That was a terrible play by me. That should never happen," he said. "I lost track. I thought we had one time out. We called the one, and we ran a couple plays, and I was just not thinking on third down."

Rob Gronkowski was hard on himself for not making a tackle at the end, but one could question why he was put in that position. The Patriots had their Hail Mary package on the field, but the ball was at the Dolphins' 31-yard line so a Hail Mary wasn't likely. Taking a top tackler off, like the Patriots did with Devin McCourty, backfired.

Miami miracle: Crazy final 2-lateral TD jolts Pats

Kenyan Drake sprinted the last 52 yards as the Dolphins scored on a crazy pass and double lateral on the final play Sunday to beat the New England Patriots 34-33 and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Rob Gronkowski: The way it ended sucked. Never been part of something like that. Have to make that tackle.

Dolphins stun Pats with miracle last-second TD (0:59)

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

The Dolphins had a 1% chance to reach the playoffs before the final play of their game. But after their incredible game-ending lateral play that resulted in a touchdown and earned them a win, Miami now has a 9% shot to reach the postseason, according to live FPI projections.

Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski has missed an extra point and a 42-yard field-goal attempt, with both kicks fading wide to the right. His missed 42-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter would have given the Patriots a nine-point lead and some much-needed cushion. Gostkowski entered the day 22-of-26 on field goals and 37-of-37 on extra points.

Gronk spikes Brady's 3rd pass TD of half (0:36)

Patriots 27, Dolphins 21 (halftime): Tom Brady is throwing some lasers, the Patriots blocked two punts, and the defense had major struggles against the run early before settling down late. It was a wild half in which the Patriots/Brady left 3 points on the field at the end of the second quarter by taking a sack with no timeouts left. That was an uncharacteristic mistake by Brady.

Here is a statistic one wouldn't have expected entering the 14th week of the regular season: Rob Gronkowski scored his first red-zone TD of the season. Tom Brady entered Sunday's game against the Dolphins 0-for-5 targeting Gronkowski in the red zone.

Brandon Bolden just scored his first rushing TD since Week 13 of 2014 with Pats. He entered this game with 1 rush for 10 yards before just scoring on 54-yard TD. The ST ace was signed by the Dolphins on Sept. 4 after Patriots released him in final cuts.
