Richie McCaw moves past football record

Not content with knocking off records in international rugby, now All Blacks captain Richie McCaw is casting his shadow across other major sporting codes. McCaw notched Test win No.113 when New Zealand put England to the sword in Hamilton on Saturday, comfortably more than anyone to play the game.
By doing so, he also inched ahead of the equivalent record in the world's biggest sport. Spain's goalkeeper Iker Casillas had won 112 international games going into the World Cup in Brazil but has failed to add to them in two pool losses. If the outgoing champions do not beat Australia on Monday, it will leave Casillas stranded one win behind McCaw. Both players are 33.
Late last year McCaw overtook cricket's only winning centurion. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting had won 108 times before he retired in 2012 at the age of 37.
McCaw is set to pass another rugby landmark this year. He has played 128 games for the All Blacks, leaving him equal with former skipper Sean Fitzpatrick and just five games behind the record-holder - esteemed lock Colin Meads.
