Bulls sign free agent forward Songaila

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls signed forward Darius Songaila to a free-agent contract on Friday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Songaila, a native of Lithuania, adds some ruggedness to the
frontcourt along with Andres Nocioni, who ranked fifth on the team in both scoring (8.4) and rebounding (4.8) as a rookie last season.

"This is a very significant signing for us and we are extremely
excited to add Darius to our roster," Bulls vice president John
Paxson said. "He is the type of player and person we desire,
and his level of skill will strengthen our already solid
frontline."

In his second season with the Sacramento Kings last year, Songaila averaged 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 81 games. He raised his play in 21 starts last season, averaging 10.5 points
and 6.0 rebounds with five double-doubles.

In a win over Dallas on February 24, Songaila scored a
career-high 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

The 27-year-old Songaila has averaged 6.1 points and 3.7
rebounds in 154 career games.
