England's women suffered their second successive defeat at the hockey World Cup after they were beaten 3-0 by China to remain pointless in Group B.

Two goals from Yang Peng and a Meiyu Liang penalty corner left England with two losses from two games. England must now win their remaining three fixtures to stand any chance of qualifying for the last four.

"There is nothing more scary than standing at the edge of a precipice and we are unmistakably at the edge of a precipice. In hockey terms it doesn't get much worse than this," England head coach Jason Lee said.

Two of England's final three group games are against reigning holders Argentina and European champions Germany. They next face South Africa on June 6, who are also without a point in Group B.

"I'm just devastated," captain Kate Richardson-Walsh said.

"There are still a lot of games to go in the tournament but I think one thing we pride ourselves on is our fight and I think we've been lacking a bit of that."
