Mercedes has poached two engineers from Red Bull to strengthen its team next year.

Mark Ellis and Giles Wood will both join in June 2014 in two new roles set up at the Brackley-based team. Ellis will join as performance director and Wood will join as chief engineer, simulation and development.

They are the latest signings in a busy period of movement among engineers in Formula One and follow the announcement that Red Bull's head of aerodynamics will leave for McLaren in 2015, further weakening the world champions.

The pair are also the first signings under Mercedes new management team of Paddy Lowe and Toto Wolff, who are in the process of taking over the running of the team from Ross Brawn.
