Tennessee's Grant Williams is confident that teammates will pick up his scoring load at times, like in the Colgate game: "We know that each person can score the basketball. We don't have to worry about forcing a shot. ... I know that my guys will knock down shots if they're open, and if they don't, I'm giving it to ‘em again to try again because they won't miss two in a row."

Tennessee's Kyle Alexander: "We can't be thinking about our legacy and all that stuff. We've done a lot of great things this year as a team, we've broken a lot of records, guys have gotten a lot of accolades. But we've gotten there by focusing on the right now."

Tennessee's Admiral Schofield grew up in an Illinois home where Iowa was not beloved. "We're not big Iowa Hawkeye fans." He watched his brother, former Wisconsin football player O'Brien Schofield, face the Hawkeyes annually. Admiral also played AAU ball against teams from Iowa. "My brother did say, ‘Man, you got to get them Hawkeyes.'"

Tennessee players checking out the end of Maryland-LSU. They didn't seem overly thrilled that the Tigers had come back to take the lead. Asked who he's rooting for, Admiral Schofield said, "The Vols."

Iowa forward Tyler Cook knows what he has to do better in the team's second-round matchup with Tennessee: "Make layups. I missed layups [against Cincinnati]. That's the one thing that kept me from having a really good game, honestly. I made some layups today in practice, so I feel confident. ... I went like 1-for-9 and had like seven layups that I missed. I'll just make layups [Sunday]."

Tennessee coach Rick Barnes on Vanderbilt's dismissal of Bryce Drew earlier Friday: "You hate to see if for someone that I respect as much as I respect Bryce. And after three years, it's tough. And there's a lot of things that happened to them this year that I think was out of his control, and in Darius Garland going down, because they were a different team. ... This business, after three years, it's very tough."

Jordan Burns (32 points) and Colgate gave Tennessee a tremendous test, especially without its top scorer Rapolas Ivanauskas for most of the game. But Tennessee's backcourt depth of Jordan Bone, Jordan Bowden, Lamonte Turner and ultimately Admiral Schofield proved too good down the stretch. Grant Williams also made contributions despite only nine points.

Tennessee stars Admiral Schofield and Grant Williams have been relatively quiet today until the final minutes. Schofield hit second-half 3-pointers in the final 4:01, including one with 45.8 seconds left, to put the Vols up 73-64. Colgate has made it tough on Williams, but his patience in passing and a huge shot block against Jordan Burns have been huge late.

There are two conference players of the year in this game -- Tennessee's Grant Williams and Colgate's Rapolas Ivanauskas -- and so far they've combined for six points, nine rebounds and four turnovers in 38 minutes. Colgate has done an excellent job targeting Williams, and it has hit 6 of 10 from 3-point range to start the second half and take a 52-50 lead with 10:52 to play. Jordan Burns (18 points) has been exceptional for the Raiders.

Tennessee closed the first half on a 22-12 run after Colgate had cut its deficit to two with 8:17 left. The Vols' quick-strike ability both inside (26 points in the paint) and outside with Lamonte Turner and Jordan Bowdwn (10 points each) has been difficult for Colgate, which has gotten nothing from Patriot League player of the year Rapolas Ivanauskas. The Raiders have done a decent job on Grant Williams, and Jordan Burns (12 points) and Dana Batt (8 points) are pacing them on offense.

Colgate has been pushing Tennessee thanks to its 3-point shooting prowess (4-of-9, including three by Jordan Burns), but Tennessee just showed why its so dangerous, scoring three layups in 20 seconds to boost its lead back to eight. Expect the Vols to go inside even more as they're struggling from the perimeter early in this one.
