North Carolina with quite the second half defensive performance against Northern Iowa. The Tar Heels held UNI to just 16 points after halftime, which is a new season-low. Previously their best performance for a half was holding Wisconsin to 20 points in the first half of their 71-56 win.

The lopsided result is no surprise in this North Carolina-Northern Iowa game. But it's also a reminder of the challenge that comes with a matchup against a North Carolina team that can get whatever it wants in the paint. If perimeter guys hit shots too, they can challenge any team in America.

North Carolina's small lineup was most effective in the first half bs Northern Iowa, but Tar Heels finally using their size advantage on current 15-2 run that's opened up a 50-32 lead.

Last season, Northern Iowa knocked off North Carolina (Marcus Paige didn't play) on its home floor. Panthers battling the Tar Heels again in Chapel Hill. It was a tie game through the first 12 minutes. Jeremy Morgan one of the best non-Power 5 players in the country.

North Carolina's Theo Pinson dressed out in full uniform vs Northern Iowa but will not play. According to a team spokesman, Pinson's just tired of wearing a suit. The junior guard has been out all year with a foot injury.

UNI's Jeremy Morgan continued his fine start to his senior season. After he was held scoreless in first half against North Dakota, Morgan scored 38 of the team's 49 second-half points to lead UNI to victory.

Morgan named preseason MVC POY

Jeremy Morgan was named the preseason Missouri Valley Player of the Year by a panel of coaches, media and SIDs. The junior averaged 11.3 PPG and 5.3 RPG for the Panthers last season. The team was picked to finish third in the league. MVC Preseason Poll
