The NCAA tournament debut was a successful one, but UC Davis may have made it harder than it needed to be in the First Four at UD Arena. The Aggies came up with the clutch defensive stops and enough free throws to knock off North Carolina Central, but they turned the ball over 18 times to keep the game close. That won't cut it moving on to Friday -- where Midwest No. 1 seed Kansas is waiting.

UC Davis beats North Carolina Central 67-63 in NCAA First Four game in Dayton, Ohio. The ViewFromVegas is the Aggies did it as 3.5-point underdogs and +145 on the money line while the game stayed just under the betting total of 131 points. UC Davis moves into the 64-team NCAA field and will face Midwest No. 1 seed Kansas on Friday.

North Carolina Central made a great adjustment midway through the first half, dialing up the defensive intensity with a halfcourt trap that gave UC Davis all kinds of problems. But when the Aggies break that pressure, they are getting good shots -- trailing only by 3 points at halftime despite 9 turnovers and too many wasted possessions. That could bode well for UC Davis if it finds a solution at intermission in the First Four.

The anthem has been sung, and North Carolina Central is ready for its return to the NCAA tournament at the First Four. Can Patrick Cole keep his impressive senior season rolling? Slowing down the guard, averaging nearly 20 points per game, will be the top priority for UC Davis.

A couple eager UC Davis players were the first on the court at the First Four -- but they only had a head start of about two minutes on North Carolina Central. Both teams are clearly ready to get started at UD Arena.

There will be two more teams leaving UD Arena with a victory and a chance to keep fighting in the NCAA tournament when the night is over. The First Four featured a pair of competitive games on Tuesday, and North Carolina Central and UC Davis will have the first shot to keep that streak alive this evening before Providence takes on USC.
