Chicago Bulls All-Star Luol Deng scored 25 points for Great Britain, yet they were still thrashed by 40 points against USA in Thursday's exhibition.

In a warm-up for the London 2012 Games, Team GB took on the mighty USA side, which was stacked full of NBA talent. That superiority showed in a 118-78 victory for the visitors.

The pre-game warm-up saw a big screen detail the rules of basketball to a British public not brought up on a regular diet of the sport. Most in attendance had come to see the stars of the opposition, and they were not disappointed.

Deng's 25-point haul was outstanding, particularly when contrasted with his rivals. LeBron James managed 16 points for the USA side, Deron Williams and Carmelo Anthony provided 19 apiece.

Britain will face easier challenges when it comes to the serious business of the Games, with fixtures against Australia, Brazil, China, Spain and the Russian Federation on the agenda.

Coach Chris Finch was unhappy with his team's second-half display, saying: "Every game has to be played out, every possession has to be played out. Of course they (the USA) can be beaten. There are a lot of quality players, a lot of experienced teams in the field.

"The Americans shot the ball extremely well and they have to continue to do so. They're the best team in the tournament, no doubt, but there are a lot of teams who could beat them on any given day."
