Leading Light confirmed his status as pre-race favourite when storming home in the St Leger at Doncaster racecourse, providing trainer Aidan O'Brien with his fourth Leger win and son Joseph O'Brien with his first in the saddle.
Oaks winner Talent ran another impressive race, pipping well-fancied 6-1 shot Galileo Rock for second.
It was the perfect tonic for the O'Brien team, who were left disappointed 12 months ago when Camelot narrowly missed out on the triple crown. Also a Queen's Vase winner at Royal Ascot, Leading Light proved more than worthy of a Classic-winning title.
Goodwood winner Cap O'Rushes set a healthy gallop, cautiously tracked by Leading Light and Galileo Rock. The latter was given the go-ahead late on Saturday morning after trainer David Wachman declared his satisfaction at the good to soft ground.
The decision looked seemingly vindicated in the closing furlongs at Town Moor as Wayne Lordan got to work on the mount to catch O'Brien on Leading Light.
However, the favourite stayed on strongly in the final furlong and powered to the post one and a half furlongs ahead of Talent, who provided another eye catching performance for Ralph Beckett under the mount of Jim Crowley.
Elsewhere, Outstrip provided Godolphin with an early winner in the Champagne Stakes. Under the stewardship of Mickael Barzalona, Charlie Appleboy's horse ran out the final furlong strongly three lengths ahead of joint favourite The Grey Gatsby, who edged Cable Bay by a head for second.
Angels will Fall was a surprise 16/1 winner of the Portland Handicap for Charles Hills, beating Steps by a nose on the line.
In the Olbg Park Stakes, second favourite Viztoria saw off the challenge of Lockwood and heavily backed favourite Gregorian to give Lordan and Edward Lynham victory.
