The Fugue finally put it together on the biggest stage to take the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

John Gosden's filly was unfortunate in the Oaks and at Royal Ascot but with conditions in her favour at Goodwood, she made no mistake.

Gosden's stable jockey William Buick elected to ride Izzi Top, having agonised over the decision, and he was made to regret it as The Fugue swept by for a Group One success.

It was a performance of real quality, as she travelled with zest for Richard Hughes before coming with a run down the outside. She passed Izzi Top before taking aim at Timepiece who had set the pace and kicked for home.

It looked a winning move from Timepiece, but she had no answer to the finishing kick of The Fugue but still Timpiece lost nothing in defeat having been forced to give 7lbs due to weight-for-age conditions.

Graham Lee, a Grand National winning-jockey who left the jumps scene after a battle with injuries, took the biggest race of his fledgling Flat career when partnering Hawkeyethenoo to victory in the Stewards Cup.

Hawkeyethenoo came with a sustained run on the far side and Lee put his mount's head in front right on the line to secure Scottish trainer Jim Goldie the big handicap pot. Imperial Guest was denied by a nose, with Lui Rei and Waffle filling the places.

Motivado teed himself up for a tilt at the Ebor when running out an easy winner of the Toyo Tires Performance Handicap. Having run a couple of promising races this season, Sir Mark Prescott's charge was sent off a well-backed favourite.

Having pulled hard at the rear of the field, Motivado briefly hit a flat sport before scything through the field for Luke Morris. The rider took a pull two furlongs from home before sending Motivado clear for a comfortable success. And with the way Prescott can improve stayers, the bookmakers are running scared as he is already favourite for the Ebor.
