The future of European rugby
English clubs cut adrift in European talks?
ESPN Staff
January 19, 2014

The latest episode in the tit-for-tat battle over the future of European domestic rugby appears to have left the English clubs cut adrift once again.

The Sunday Telegraph claims more meetings regarding the future of European rugby were held last week but similar to events in November, the English clubs were snubbed and the other five nations seem keen to push ahead with the previously proposed 20-team tournament.

Just which Welsh teams will play in the possible tournament is still shrouded in uncertainty as the regions and the Welsh Rugby Union are still a way off from finding common ground over the future of domestic rugby in that country. The French have also previously stated they will only play in a European tournament if the English clubs are included.
