Kuchar beats Donald to RBC Heritage crown
Matt Kuchar clinched victory at the RBC Heritage by one shot over Luke Donald on 11-under to win the seventh PGA Tour title of his career.
Kuchar, who finished tied for fifth at the Masters in Augusta, stormed to the top of the leaderboard after carding six birdies on the front nine, with another birdie on the 10th seeing him go three shots clear having began the round four shots adrift.
However, the lead began to slip away after he bogeyed the 17th when he looked as though he would take a two-shot advantage with another birdie.
Kuchar ended his round with a seven-under 64 and one shot ahead of Donald after landing an unlikely birdie from the bunker on the 18th.
Former world No.1 Donald, who lost in a play-off to Brandt Snedeker three years ago, was the leader after three rounds by two shots.
He made par on the 16th and only required two birdies on the final two holes to clinch victory. But, after hitting a great putt on the 17th he was unable to level.
Donald had to chip in on the 18th in order to tie after his approach shot fell short, but with the effort narrowly missing the hole Kuchar was crowned champion, with Donald finishing a runner-up for the third time at the event.
Americans Ben Martin and John Huh finished two shots off Kuchar on nine-under and tied for third, with Scott Brown and Brian Stuard on seven-under.
