Masters champion Adam Scott has grabbed the outright lead after his second round at the Australian PGA Championship on the Gold Coast.

Scott, who has already won the Australian Open and Australian Masters, is hoping to complete what he is calling the "Aussie Slam".

The world No. 2 carded a 4-under 67 for the day and sits 10-under, two shots clear of compatriot David McKenzie and three strokes ahead of overnight leader Rickie Fowler.

Scott made a fast start to his day, picking up birdies on the fourth and 11th before moving into a share of the lead with an eagle on the par-5 12th.

The 33-year-old was tied with journeyman McKenzie and took the outright lead after McKenzie's bogey on the par-4 13th.

McKenzie finished day two with another bogey on the last green to card a 2-under second round - 8-under through 36 holes.

The Australians' days were made easier as Fowler failed to capitalise on his blistering first-round 63. The young American went 1-over on Thursday to sit 7-under for the tournament.

It looked like his hot form had carried over from Wednesday as he eagled the first, but it quickly abandoned him as he hit bogeys on the fourth, eighth, 12th and 16th.

Another Australian, Nathan Green had a shocking start to the second round as he bogeyed the first but recovered to card 4-under for the day to sit in a tie for third with Fowler and New Zealand's Gareth Paddison.

Steven Jeffress and Josh Geary have had an almost identical tournament - both with two 3-under rounds of 68 to their name. They are tied for sixth at 6-under.
