Considering what is at stake for Peter Hedblom at the Perth International, the Swede is maintaining a level head as he opened up a two-shot lead Down Under.

Hedblom is in danger of losing his European Tour card, and must win the event if he is to make it into the list of 110 players in the Race to Dubai to play on the Tour for next season.

At 179th in the world rankings, Hedblom made six birdies but dropped three shots to card a three-under 69, which was good enough to see him hold a two-shot advantage over Ross Fisher, who hit a five-under 67 to climb the leaderboard after a par round on Thursday.

Following his second round, Fisher said: "It would be for me a great achievement having played the first half of the year in the States. My first tournament in Europe counting wise wasn't till May.

"So I've always been playing catch up, but I can be really proud of how I've played the second half of the year."
