Julien Quesne took the honours at the Italian Open after winning by one shot ahead of David Higgins and Steve Webster.

The Frenchman carded a final round of 67 to take the clubhouse lead on 12-under, and the others behind him could not reach that total, with Quesne coming home in 31 shots to record back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to take the win.

Quesne began the final round four shots off overnight leader Marcus Fraser, and the latter very quickly started to fall down the pecking order with two bogeys on the 3rd and 6th holes. And his hopes of winning the title disappeared when he recorded three consecutive bogeys towards the end of his round.

Quesne on the other hand grew stronger as the day went on despite suffering a double bogey on the par-4 second. He landed two birdies after that disappointment and then approached the back nine in superb form, making five birdies in his final nine holes to register a five-under-67, which could not be matched.

The lead was briefly shared between Higgins, Quesne and Webster, but the challenge of Higgins and Webster faded when they struggled on the 16th hole, and both had to settle for finishing tied-second on the leaderboard on 11-under.
