Defending champion Zach Johnson will head into the final round three shots off leader Daniel Summerhays, who shot a stunning nine-under par to surge to the top of the leaderboard.

Summerhays, who has yet to win on the PGA Tour, opened with four birdies and a bogey before picking up six more birdies on his way to carding a 62 - matching the lowest third round score in the tournament's history - and reaching 19-under par.

But the 29-year-old will be glancing over his shoulder at Johnson, who grew up in nearby Iowa City and knows the TPC Deere Run course very well. The 2007 Masters champion had a mixed round which included four birdies, two bogeys and an eagle at the par-five third.

The pair are separated by Canadian David Hearn, who recorded a 64 to reach 17-under.

JJ Henry (65) and Jerry Kelly (66) are tied for fourth at 14-under, with Nicholas Thompson, Chris Kirk and Matt Jones a shot further back - one ahead of teenage sensation Jordan Spieth.

On a day of low scoring, Johnson's overnight co-leader Lucas Glover carded a disappointing level par 71 to fall back into a cluster tied for 12th.
