Ryan Palmer was the leader on the opening day of the Crowne Palmer Invitational at Colonial after the American hit an eight-under 62 to hold a one-shot advantage over John Rollins.

Palmer did not drop a shot throughout the day in Fort Worth and landed eight birdies in total - with his score tying the lowest for an opening round in the tournament. Rollins later in the day moved to second in the standings with a 63.

"This golf course, I know where to hit it," Palmer said after the round as he cited local knowledge as a Texas resident the key to his early lead. "I felt comfortable over every tee shot. I hit driver almost everywhere I could and I drove it perfectly today."

Morgan Hoffmann had been in second for the majority of the round and managed six birdies, and like Palmer did not record any bogeys in round one. David Hearn and Graham DeLaet are the other players on six-under.

Palmer began the day with a birdie and finished off his first nine holes with three birdies in four. Solid pars followed on the following four holes, and Palmer raised his game with four consecutive birdies from the 14th hole to the 17th, before completing his round with a par.

Matt Kuchar ended the day three shots behind Palmer on five-under with a round of 65, while Brian Davis was the leading Briton on two-under. Current champion Zach Johnson was on one-under, as was recently-crowned HP Byron Nelson Championship winner Sang-Moon Bae.
