Ye Wocheng survived a turbulent final nine holes to become the youngest golfer to qualify for a European Tour event on Wednesday, aged just 12.

Ye betters the mark of previous record holder Guan Tianlang, who was 13 when qualifying for an event last year.

He posted a two-under-par 142 after two rounds of golf at the Western China qualifier on Wednesday to book his spot at the Volvo China Open, scheduled for May 2.

Guided by the influence of his dad as caddie, Ye led the entire field after 27 holes on a score of seven-under. However, the pressure of the occasion unsurprisingly began to tell down the stretch.

Two bogeys were later followed by a triple-bogey eight, but he still held on to claim one of the three qualifying places. Li Xinyang and Jin Da Xing secured the other two spots.
