Barcelona's Arda Turan would have considered Arsenal transfer

Arda Turan has said he would have settled for signing for Arsenal if his performances had not been good enough for a move to Barcelona.

Turan, 29, joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid last summer for an initial fee of €34 million (£24.1m), although he was not able to make his debut until January due to Barca's transfer ban.

The Turkey international, whose club beat Arsenal 5-1 on aggregate to reach the Champions League quarterfinals, has said he would have considered a switch to the Gunners.

Turan is quoted by The Independent as telling Diari Ara: "I felt that I would sign for Barca. Honestly, I thought: 'If I play very well I'll end up signing for Barca, because my style fits this team. If I play well, finish at Arsenal.'

"For my style, with ball, playing easy, short, aggressive when needed, but especially good, I knew I could get here in Barcelona."

Earlier this month, Turkey coach Fatih Terim said Turan's feeding of Barcelona's front three could help the club win the Treble again this year.
