Scott Parker has signed a new five-year contract with West Ham United, ESPNsoccernet can reveal.

West Ham have confirmed that Parker, 30, has finally committed himself to the east London club for effectively the rest of his career.

It is a rare piece of good news in a season that is in turmoil with the club at the foot of the Premier League without a single point under new manager Avram Grant.

Tottenham tried to buy Parker before the transfer deadline last month and had a bid rejected by the Hammers.

West Ham insisted that Parker had agreed the new contract before the window closed, and now the deal had been tied up officially.

There is an option for the fifth year in the club's favour, and Parker is now the highest paid player in the club's history.
