Former Barcelona star Ronaldinho has been offered a contract by Conference South side Basingstoke Town.

Ronaldinho, 34, is currently a free agent and the club confirmed they had tabled an audacious bid to land the Brazilian - although they are not expecting a response from the playmaker's agent.

"We've sent an offer to his agent, but we've not heard anything back yet," Basingstoke marketing director Simon Hood told ESPN.

"I was surprised he was a free agent. Basingstoke are moving to a new stadium in a couple of years' time, so what better way than to kick it off with Ronaldinho playing there."

Ronaldinho last played for Flamengo in his native Brazil, but is currently without a club. Basingstoke Town lie third in the Conference South, which is considered the sixth tier of English football.
