ESPN FC: Liverpool can thrive without Luis Suarez

Of the three players to move from Southampton to Liverpool over the summer, only defender Dejan Lovren makes Brendan Rodgers' first starting XI of the season against his old club.

Lovren's fellow former Saints, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana, are on the bench and injured respectively.

Javier Manquillo also makes his debut, while Philippe Coutinho, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge are the men tasked with scoring the goals in the absence of Luis Suarez.

For the visitors, wantaway midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, linked with Tottenham and Arsenal, starts, while Ronald Koeman hands debuts to Fraser Forster, Ryan Bertrand, Dusan Tadic and Graziano Pelle.

Another new signing, striker Shane Long, is on the bench.
