Stevan Jovetic has vowed that this season will be better than his injury-hit debut year at Manchester City and believes now he can make his mark in what he believes is the biggest squad in world football.

Jovetic has only made two Premier League starts since swapping Fiorentina for £22 million in 2013.

And besides hamstring, calf and groin problems, he struggled to displace Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo from the City side.

But Jovetic has starred in their pre-season campaign, scoring five goals in three games on their tour of the United States, and hit the post in Sunday's 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

"Everybody knows that when they come to City, they have to compete in the biggest squad in the world," Jovetic said.

"Especially in attack. We have five very good strikers and we know it is not easy to play every game."

But he is finally fully fit and feels this is the chance to make an impression.

"When I played last season, it was good but I was just injured a lot of the time so I was always behind with the conditioning," he added.

"That was the No.1 problem but in the final three or four months, it was fine and I was playing. This year it is going to be better."

Jovetic is likely to start the league season in the City side as Negredo is injured and Aguero only returned to training a week ago after helping Argentina reach the World Cup final.
