Liverpool could miss out on Davies with Spurs set to swoop
Liverpool look likely to miss out on signing Ben Davies as Tottenham are reportedly closing in on a deal for the Swansea left-back.
Brendan Rodgers has long been linked with a move for Davies and is intent on strengthening the Liverpool defence ahead of their return to the Champions League.
The manager has been given permission by the club's owners Fenway Sports Group to spend the money earned through the sale of Luis Suarez, which could ultimately see Rodgers top the £100 million outlay on new recruits.

However, reports in both the Mirror and Daily Mail claim Tottenham are close to matching Swansea's £8m valuation for the defender and would be prepared to pay as much as £10m in order to secure his signature.
Davies is thought to prefer a move to Anfield with the club able to offer top European football, but is concerned by Rodgers' long-standing interest in Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno.
Liverpool had a £16m offer for Moreno turned down in May and the club also has Jose Enrique on its books, meaning Davies could be used as second choice, whereas Tottenham would likely guarantee him first-team football.
Rodgers has already spent around £57m this summer, having signed Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic. Suarez's £75m move to Barcelona has freed up more funds and Rodgers appears keen to further bolster his squad.
