Drogba opens talks over Chelsea return
Didier Drogba is reportedly in line to make a return to Chelsea after opening talks with the Stamford Bridge club.
Jose Mourinho wants to bring his former talisman back to west London as a second striker and give the Ivorian coaching responsibilities to develop his role within the club, with whom he enjoyed considerable success between 2004-12, according to the Daily Mail.
Mourinho needs an extra forward with the departure of Samuel Eto'o, while Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku are also expected to leave even if only on loan deals. The struggling Fernando Torres is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge despite reported interest from Inter Milan.
Drogba confirmed in May that he would be leaving current club Galatasaray this summer, opening the prospect of a return to Chelsea. He won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League during his eight-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
Drogba is also thought to have been targeted by Qatari clubs, who are willing to offer him a salary of around £3 million a season after tax, but the idea of a return to Chelsea is something both Mourinho and Drogba wish to discuss.
