Mario Goetze's extra-time winner for Germany in the World Cup final earned him a £240,000 bonus from his national football federation (DFB).

Each Germany player received the bonus for lifting the trophy on Sunday after Goetze's spectacular goal in the second-half on extra time sealed a 1-0 victory over Argentina.

But the individual bonuses are dwarfed by the total £20.5 million winners' cheque that Germany will receive from FIFA as they take the biggest share of the £336.5m prize fund.

The total prize fund for the 2014 World Cup is up more than £87.6m from the 2010 tournament. Spain earned £17.5m of the £245.4m pot for winning the tournament in South Africa four years ago.

Argentina will be paid £14.6m for finishing as runners-up in 2014, while each of the 32 nations that reached the finals in Brazil have earned at least £4.7m.

The fund includes payments to clubs worldwide and an insurance policy to cover injured players' salaries.

Goetze came off the bench at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro to score the goal which sealed the World Cup for Germany, an intervention that prompted head coach Joachim Loew to hail the Bayern Munich star as better than Argentina's Lionel Messi.

Before the tournament, the DFB promised all 23 players in the Germany squad a bonus of £240,000 for winning the title, Germany's fourth in World Cup history and the first to be won by a European side in the Americas.
