Emre Can is confident new club Liverpool can match the likes of Bayern Munich and become a force in the Champions League next season.

Can became Brendan Rodgers' third signing of the summer after completing a reported £10 million move from Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday. He spent four years at Bayern as a youth player and believes Liverpool will be their equal in Europe, despite the possible sale of Luis Suarez.

"I believe Liverpool can be on a similar level to Bayern Munich next season," Can said. "We came second in last year's Premier League, the best league in the world, so we don't have to hide from anybody.

"We simply need to believe in ourselves and I am very optimistic that we will go far in the Champions League. I hope we will progress as far as we can and I am looking to competing against the best teams in Europe.

"I believe we will play a good role in next year's competition."

Can watched Liverpool finish a close second to Manchester City in a dramatic Premier League title race last season but, following the additions of Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert from Southampton, the midfielder says the club can end their wait for a first league title since 1990.

"I want to be a Premier League champion next season. Yes, I believe we can go one better. We will give it our best in order to finish on top of the table."
