Mats Hummels has hinted that he could be tempted to join Manchester United in the future but admitted a transfer is unlikely this summer.

The defender has been linked with a switch from Borussia Dortmund to United, who are expected to reinforce at centre-back after Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic left Old Trafford.

There have been suggestions Hummels, 25, is new manager Louis van Gaal's main target in his position, though Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen has reportedly agreed a deal in principle to join United.

Dortmund have always insisted Hummels is not for sale with the player himself now admitting he believes he will be at the Westfalenstadion again next season.

"I never think about that or talk about it because it is something that isn't important for me right now," Hummels was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph. "Maybe it will be some day, but I don't expect it to be like that this summer."

Hummels won his 31st cap for Germany in Monday's 4-0 win over Portugal, scoring the second goal before being carried off with a knee injury.
