The ESPN FC team discuss Louis van Gaal's rebuilding job at Manchester United

Manchester United have announced that Patrice Evra will stay at the club after extending his contract.

It had been thought that Evra, 33, could join the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand in leaving Old Trafford this summer with United expected to complete a deal for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.

The former Nice defender, who has played 379 times for United, was reported to be in talks with Juventus earlier this week.

However, United have now announced that he will remain at the club under new boss Louis van Gaal as he committed to a one-year extension.

The list of released players submitted to the Premier League also confirms that Italian striker Federico Macheda is leaving the club.
