Manchester United manager David Moyes is to make William Carvalho his first signing of the summer, according to the Sunday People.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has a £37 million release clause, with United keen to get pen to paper ahead of the World Cup. Carvalho's agent was recently spotted being given a tour of the club's Carrington training facilities.

Agolan-born Carvalho, 21, is expected to be the first of five major signings at Old Trafford, according to the newspaper, with Moyes reportedly confident he can strike a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos.

Having publicly missed out on main targets Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera last summer, Moyes and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward are keen not to make the same mistakes again this year.

United are also keen on Southampton's £25 million left-back Luke Shaw, while Dortmund pair Ilkay Gundogan and Marco Reus have also been linked with Premier League champions.
