Under-fire Ozil says sorry for penalty shocker
Mesut Ozil has issued an apology to Arsenal fans for his penalty miss in Wednesday's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.
Arsenal's hopes of reaching the quarter finals are in tatters with second-half strikes from Toni Kroos and Thomas Mueller putting Bayern in the driving seat ahead of the second leg.
It could have been a different story had Ozil not missed a first-half spot-kick with the score still 0-0 at the Emirates Stadium. However Bayern pounced after Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for bringing down Arjen Robben shortly before half-time.
Taking to his personal Facebook page, Ozil wrote: "The next morning doesn't feel better either.
"Sorry guys - it wasn't planned that way. Outnumbered, it was really hard to win against this team."
It was another poor display from a player who has come under fire in recent weeks, having not found the back of the net for Arsenal since December 8.
