Per Mertesacker want Draxler at Arsenal

Arsenal are prepared to offer Lukas Podolski to Schalke as part of a £35 million deal to sign Julian Draxler, according to a report in the Sun.

Arsene Wenger has long been linked with a move for Draxler, but last week cooled speculation he was close to signing the Germany midfielder.

However, it is thought Schalke are holding out for the full value of Draxler's reported £37m release clause and would not be prepared to accept Podolski as part of the offer.

Podolski joined Arsenal in July 2012 for a fee of £11m from Cologne, but has only made seven appearances this season.

He picked up an injury in Arsenal's Champions League play-off clash against Fenerbahce last August and did not reappear until he came off the bench to make a scoring return in the 3-1 victory against West Ham at Upton Park in December.
