Rooney misses United trip to Norwich

Wayne Rooney will miss Manchester United's trip to Carrow Road on Saturday.

Manager David Moyes has made five changes to the side that beat Hull on Boxing Day.

Nemanja Vidic comes in for the injured Rafael, with Chris Smalling moving to right-back, while Michael Carrick starts his first game since returning from injury as Darren Fletcher drops to the bench.

Ryan Giggs comes in for Adnan Januzaj, while Shinji Kagawa and Javier Hernandez come in for Rooney and Danny Welbeck.

Norwich City starting XI: Ruddy; Martin, R Bennett, Bassong, Olsson; Fer, Johnson; Snodgrass, Hoolahan, Redmond; Hooper Substitutes: Bunn, Whittaker, van Wolfswinkel, Elmander, Garrido, Becchio, Murphy

Manchester United starting XI: De Gea, Smalling, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Young, Cleverley, Carrick, Giggs, Kagawa, Hernandez Substitutes: Lindegaard, Anderson, Welbeck, Fabio, Fletcher, Zaha, Januzaj

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has also freshened up his starting line-up for the visit of Crystal Palace.

Boxing Day's match-winner Alvaro Negredo drops to the bench and is replaced by Edin Dzeko, while Yaya Toure is also rested in place of James Milner as City look to maintain their 100% home record.

Dedryck Boyata, Matija Nastasic, Gael Clich, Joleon Lescott and Javi Garcia also start in place of Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksander Kolarov, Joleon Lescott and Samir Nasri.

For Palace, in-form Marouane Chamakh drops to the bench.
