Fulham have confirmed that Clint Dempsey has undergone a medical at the club ahead of a potential loan move.

Dempsey, 30, spent five-and-a-half years at Craven Cottage between 2007 and 2012, scoring 50 goals and helping the Cottagers to reach the Europa League final in 2010.

The United States international left Fulham in 2012 to join Tottenham before returning to the MLS a year later with Seattle Sounders.

Fulham, who recently parted company with manager Martin Jol, tweeted that Dempsey would return for January and February, making him available for eight Premier League games including the crucial fixtures against West Ham, Norwich and Sunderland.

Seattle Sounders' general manager Adrian Hanauer recently said that Dempsey had a clause in his contract allowing him to make a loan move during the MLS off-season.

"Clint did have something in his contract that would allow him to go on loan for the first couple of months here," Hanauer said. "Obviously the rumours are pretty rampant and I think [a move] is likely, but until it is done, we won't report it as done. But I do think it is likely."
