Moyes happy to reach semi finals

Manchester United manager David Moyes confirmed Wayne Rooney has suffered a groin injury, although he "hopes" to have the striker fit for the hectic Christmas period.

Rooney was not named in United's squad during Wednesday's League Cup quarter-final win over Stoke, with Danny Welbeck leading the line at the Britannia Stadium.

Speaking to Sky Sports in his pre-match interview, Moyes confirmed Rooney "is injured" and when asked if he would have him back for the festive period, the Scot replied: "We hope so."

Moyes has endured a spate of bad luck on the injury front, with Robin van Persie having recently been ruled out for a month with a thigh problem.
