England rout San Marino to record biggest ever win

Gareth Southgate's England Under-21 side wrote themselves into the history books as they crushed San Marino 9-0 at New Meadow, Shrewsbury.

The previous biggest wins for the Under-21s were 8-1, against Finland in 1977, and a 7-0 drubbing of Azerbaijan in 2009.

Manchester United's Michael Keane opened the scoring on 13 minutes before Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling doubled the lead within 90 seconds.

Burnley striker Danny Ings made it three on 18 minutes before Southampton's James Ward-Prowse made scored the fourth shortly after. In-form Blackpool winger Tom Ince made it 5-0 at half-time.

Ings scored a sixth shortly after the break before Sterling and Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson scored two goals in a minute to make it eight.

Derby County's Will Hughes completed the rout on 78 minutes.
