Tottenham have confirmed that Christian Eriksen's ankle injury is not as bad as first feared.

Eriksen, 21, who arrived at White Hart Lane from Ajax in the summer, picked up the injury during Denmark's 2-1 win over Norway on Friday following a challenge from Vegard Forren.

It had been thought that the midfielder had ruptured ankle ligaments. However, scans have since revealed that he only suffered a sprain.

Spurs announced the news via their official Twitter feed on Tuesday.

The North London club have not put an official time frame on Eriksen's recovery, although it is believed that he could make his return in time for the Premier League game at home to Liverpool on December 15.

Eriksen had lost his place in the Tottenham team to Lewis Holtby following a dip in form before picking up the injury.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas can also call on the likes of Erik Lamela, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Harry Kane to play in the No. 10 role during the Denmark international's absence.
