Defoe handed Spurs start

Jermain Defoe has been handed his first Premier League start of the season against West Ham after impressing during Europa League action midweek.

The striker scored his seventh goal in only his fourth start of the season against Anzhi Makhachkala in Moscow on Thursday and will lead Tottenham's line at White Hart Lane. Roberto Soldado has to settle for a place on the bench.

West Ham have made three changes with Guy Demel, Stewart Downing and Ricardo Vaz Te all included in the starting XI.

Tottenham: Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Naughton, Dembele, Paulinho, Townsend, Eriksen, Sigurdsson, Defoe

West Ham: Jaaskelainen, Demel, Tomkins, Reid, Rat, Noble, Morrison, Nolan, Downing, Diame, Vaz Te
