Atletico Madrid's record-setting 1-0 win over Real Madrid brought an emphatic end to their rivals' 14-year unbeaten La Liga run in their Spanish capital derby on Saturday.

Diego Costa struck in the 11th minute and not even Gareth Bale in his home debut for Madrid could help them rally.

Barcelona and Atletico set club records by staying perfect through seven rounds to start the season, opening up a five-point gap over Madrid.

Atletico's last league win against Madrid came in 1999, and since then they have gone 23 games without a victory.

Lionel Messi scored before being substituted with an injury to help Barcelona win 2-0 at Almeria

Messi netted his league-leading eighth goal to open in the 21st minute, but he asked to be replaced eight minutes later after hurting a muscle in his right thigh.

Adriano sealed the result in the 56th minute from a pass by Cesc Fabregas.

Messi's injury leaves him in doubt for Tuesday's Champions League match at Celtic. He previously missed the second round of this season after bruising his left thigh, and the Argentina forward missed several games at the end of last season with a right hamstring pull.

Barcelona's first-year boss Gerardo Martino has guided Barcelona to its best start in 82 seasons. Five other managers, including Pep Guardiola in 2009 and Tito Vilanova last year, had reached six wins.

Earlier Saturday, Jonas scored his third winning goal for Valencia this week to secure a 1-0 victory at home over Rayo Vallecano.

The Brazilian forward netted the decisive goal in recent wins against Sevilla and Granada, and he stepped up once again to produce the 36th-minute winner.

Jonas stole a poor pass from Saul Niguez and slotted the ball inside the far post to help deal Rayo their sixth straight loss.

Real Sociedad were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Sevillabefore their Champions League game at Leverkusen on Wednesday.

Ivan Rakitic set up Jairo Samperio with a long pass for Sevilla's goal in the 18th. Sociedad leveled through Antoine Griezmann in the 66th but couldn't take advantage of the dismissal of Sevilla's Juan Cala with five minutes to go.
