Yohan Cabaye has revealed he is remaining focused on the opening game of the Premier League season for Newcastle as he continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Newcastle fans fear the France international may be sold in the summer if a significant bid is submitted, with league champions Manchester United rumoured to be monitoring Cabaye as they are on the hunt for a creative midfielder.

However, speaking after Newcastle's 1-0 pre-season victory at Blackpool, Cabaye insisted he is solely concentrating on the first game against Manchester City.

"I'm just working hard. We have to be focused and ready for the first game on August 19," Cabaye told the Chronicle.

Supporters of the Toon were heard chanting "Don't sell Cabaye", and on the fans' reaction Cabaye said: "It's always nice to hear that, and the fans were fantastic, as they are every time. It was a great moment."

Reports of unrest in the Newcastle camp materialised towards the backend of the previous campaign, but Cabaye revealed there is no such existence at St James' Park.

"The feeling in the squad is very, very positive. It's nice to work in this atmosphere," he said.
