Petr Cech has heaped praise on Wayne Rooney and claims the Manchester United striker would be a welcome addition to the Chelsea squad.

Rooney's future at United is in some doubt following the news that he asked to leave towards the end of last season. Sir Alex Ferguson's successor David Moyes is believed to be heading for crunch talks with Rooney this week, which will go a long way to deciding the England international's future.

Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have been strongly linked with Rooney, while Chelsea manager Jose Mouruinho is a huge admirer of the forward and the Blues have been mooted as being ready to make a bid.

Cech claims to be in the dark as to Mourinho's transfer plans, but says Rooney would be a welcome addition to the squad.

"I could see him in a Chelsea shirt, as players change shirts," Cech told Sky Sports News. "He has had a fantastic career with Manchester United, but sometimes players need new challenges.

"If that happens, he is a fantastic player and would be welcomed to our squad. But at the moment we are in the moment of speculation so we will see what happens.

"He is a great player and you always want to see great players in your team. I can see lots of players in the Chelsea shirt, but it all depends on who Jose Mourinho wants to see in the Chelsea shirt.

"He has his ideas and what he wants. Now the window opens and we will see what the movement is."
